Naval situation east of Crete

Naval activity to the east of Crete is still intense.

According to the twitter account H I Sutton at least three Russian Navy vessels are in the area: a Kilo-class submarine in surfacing, an Amur-class factory ship and a Burian-class corvette.

The fact that the submarine is surfacing and that there is also a repair ship in the area suggests that the former has some problems.

Monitoring the situation in the are is a USNavy Sikorsky MH-60R (reg. 166564) departed from a US naval unit cruising south of Crete.

But there would also be other units in the area, possibly a Greek Ellis-class frigate.

In the eastern Mediterranean, the Standing NATO Maritime Group 2, of which the Greek frigate Aigaion (Ellis class) is a member, is sailing. It cannot be ruled out that the SNMG2 is in the area.
