Ambiguous situation

This track has been recorded this morning: it shows the flight of a Russian Air Force Ilyushin Il-76MD (reg. RA-78818) in flight from Russia to Algeria.

More than six months after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Turkish airspace is still open to Russian military aircraft.

Turkey is the only NATO member country still implementing this policy. An ambiguous policy given that even the Bosphorus, which is closed to the military ships of foreign nations, sees the passage of Russian navy auxiliary ships as well as Russian cargo ships carrying grain and other materials stolen by the Russians in Ukraine.
