Italian CAEW missions on the NATO’s eastern flank

On February 17, an Italian Air Force Gulfstream E.550 CAEW (reg. MM62293) was detached to  Mihail Kogălniceanu Air Base, Costanta, Romania.

Since then the aircraft has flown 11 missions (the last one today), averaging more than one mission every two days.

As can be seen from the map on the other almost all of the missions have been flown over Romania (9) while only on a couple of occasions has the aircraft operated over eastern Poland.

Being able to operate directly from Romania allows the CAEW to remain in the area of operations about three hours longer than if it operated from Italy from the Pratica di Mare AB base
