Monitoring Black Sea

In the last 24 hours, NATO has conducted continuous monitoring in the western Black Sea. Essentially, there has been at least one asset present in the area throughout the past 24 hours.

Specifically, the following rotations took place:

  • The USAF Northrop Grumman RQ-4B (reg. 11-2046 – c/s FORTE10), launched from NAS Sigonella, operated yesterday and returned to Sicily overnight. The drone flew over the central Black Sea and then conducted a long flight over the western part (with an unusual pattern).
  • The USN Boeing P-8A, which took off from Sigonella last night, operated in eastern Romania until this morning.
  • The USN Lockheed EP-3E (reg. 159887) relieved the Poseidon and operated in the same area until a few minutes ago (16:00 CET) when it returned to Souda Bay AB.
