Where’s IKE?

On October 14, 2023, the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69) Ike” aircraft carrier left Norfolk, Virginia, for the eastern Mediterranean.

In the meantime, the Pentagon has decided to extend the deployment of the USS Ford aircraft carrier in the Mediterranean, ordering the Eisenhower to head to the Persian Gulf.

But where is the Ike now?

We can track its location by following the flights of its aircraft.

A Grumman C-2A aircraft that landed at NAS Rota this morning took off from a point south of the Azores. This point, being in the middle of the sea, corresponds to the location of the Eisenhower.

In addition, a USN Sikorsky MH-60R helicopter is flying in that area, having taken off from a unit of the Ike’s Carrier Strike group.

The aircraft carrier is therefore expected to transit through Gibraltar and enter the Mediterranean within 36/48 hours.
