After observing an unusual flight by a USN Boeing P-8A over the southern Tyrrhenian Sea yesterday, today we are tracking a similar mission.

A Poseidon aircraft, registered as 169586, took off from NAS Sigonella and is currently conducting a mission off the coast of Lazio. It is flying at a relatively low altitude of 15,000 feet, following a crescent-shaped route.

The aircraft is operating near Fiumicino Airport, within an area strictly regulated by ATC, and the nature of its mission remains unknown.
