Unusual US Activity Over the Black Sea

As the world awaits to learn what Trump and Putin will discuss regarding Ukraine, military operations on the ground and in the air continue unabated.

Today, the Black Sea theater is particularly interesting, as two manned US assets are currently (15:00 CET) operating in the area. These include a USAF Boeing RC-135V (reg. 64-14844 – c/s JAKE17) that took off from RAF Mildenhall and a USN Boeing P-8A that departed from NAS Sigonella.

Both aircraft are operating over the Black Sea, in international airspace south of Crimea. This marks the first time in years that two manned US aircraft have been seen operating simultaneously in this area.

It is worth noting that, following the end of Trump’s ban, US assets are currently sharing intelligence information with the Ukrainians.
