A US Navy Boeing P-8A is currently returning to NAS Sigonella (14:30 CET) after an unusual mission.

Instead of heading towards the eastern Mediterranean off the Syrian coast, the aircraft flew southeast of Crete, where it orbited at a rather low altitude—around 300 meters—over an unidentified target.

No commercial vessels have been reported in the area.

It is worth noting that the Russian submarine Novosibirsk has been operating in the eastern Mediterranean for about a month, accompanied by the tug Churov, which is currently located northwest of Alexandria.
