This morning, an Italian Air Force Boeing KC-767A (registration MM62226) conducted an aerial refueling mission over eastern Poland, near the Kaliningrad border, in support of ongoing NATO Combat Air Patrol (CAP) operations.
The aircraft, which took off from Pratica di Mare Air Base, followed a direct route through Austria and Slovakia before reaching its orbit area over Poland. Once on station, it performed several loops, providing aerial refueling capabilities to NATO fighter jets operating in the region.
While Italian tankers are regularly deployed in support of NATO operations, it is relatively rare to see them involved in air-to-air refueling (AAR) missions in this part of Eastern Europe, especially so close to sensitive zones like Kaliningrad. Today’s mission underlines Italy’s ongoing commitment to NATO’s collective defense efforts and air policing missions along the eastern flank.
This deployment highlights both interoperability within the alliance and the strategic mobility of Italy’s KC-767A fleet, capable of extending the operational reach of allied air assets across Europe.
