On the morning of June 4th, we recorded a new French aerial mission over the Black Sea.
A pair of Mirage 2000D fighter jets, which took off from France and were supported by an Airbus A330MRTT tanker aircraft from Istres Air Base, conducted a mission over the central Black Sea. The operation was likely of an ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance) nature, made possible by the ASTAC tactical electronic reconnaissance pods the Mirage jets can carry.
What made this mission particularly noteworthy was the flight path traced by one of the Mirage jets over the western Black Sea. The aircraft’s trajectory appeared to “draw” the Ukrainian coat of arms in the sky—an unmistakable symbolic gesture.
This act served as a further demonstration of France’s support for Ukraine, and more broadly, of NATO countries’ solidarity with Kyiv.
