This morning at 06:52 CEST an Italian Air Force ATR P-72A ( reg. MM62279, callsign IAM4101) left Sigonella AB to make a SAR mission over the area of the crash of the Canadian Armed Forces Sikorsky CH-148 Cyclone.

Contact was lost after the CH-148 took off from the frigate HMCS Fredericton (FFH 337) during a Nato exercise yesterday evening.
In the area there were, at least the Italian Navy frigate Virginio Fasan (F591), the Turkish Navy frigate Salihreis (F-246), and the Canadian ship.
Also a Hellenic Navy helicopter is participating in the SAR mission.
Some wreckages would have been found at sea but there is no definite information on the fate of the crew.
