Yesterday at 11:26 CEST an Italian Air Force Boeing KC-767A (reg. MM62226 – callsign IAM1447) left northbound Pratica di Mare AB.

At the same time 4 Italian Air Force Lockheed Martin F-35A (reg. MM7357, MM7360, MM7361, MM7362) belong to the 13° Gruppo (Squadron) of the 32° Stormo (Wing) left Amendola AB.

Around 14:00 Italin aircraft have arrived at Ämari Air Base, west of Tallinn, ahead of the official handover of the NATO Baltic Air Policing.

The Italians are bringing their Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning IIs, marking the first time the state-of-the-art, fifth generation multi-role combat fighter has been seen in Estonia.

Italian F-35 will replace the German Eurofighter Typhoon fighters in rotation.

The rotation ceremony for NATO’s Baltic Air Security Mission will take place on Monday at Amari Air Force Base. The ceremony will be attended by Estonian Defense Minister Kalle Laanet and Italian Deputy Defense Minister Giorgio Mulé.
