A US Marine Corps Lockheed Martin F-35B (reg. 169608/CF-07) made an emergency landing at Ibiza airport yesterday evening around 21:30 CEST.

This aircraft belongs to the VMFA-211, based at MCAS Yuma, Arizona, and, is detached to the HMS Queen Elizabeth, for UK’s aircraft carrier’s first operational deployment.

The HMS Queen Elizabeth strike group is entered few days ago into the Mediterranean Sea and now is underway somewhere between Balearic islands and Sardinia.

Following a technical problem the F-35, after squawking emergency code 7700, decided to head to the closest airport. We do not know the problem but from the photos it is evident that the right rear landing gear tires is flat.
