This morning, a fire broke out in a room of the French Navy Rubis class nuclear attack submarine Perle (S606), which is currently undergoing work at the arsenal in Toulon.

The fire started in a food storage room at the front of the submarine. The unit was evacuated but no injuries were reported.

The fire was “limited to the room concerned by the initial event and no radiological risk is to be feared”.

The Perle had already been the victim of a fire on 12 June 2020. The submarine was scheduled to return to service in the first quarter of 2023.
