Poseidons weird missions

This morning at least three USNavy Boeing P-8As left NAS Sigonella heading north-east.

Interestingly, they headed towards the Otranto Channel and then switched-off the ADS-B transponder (unusual for USNavy aircraft) once they arrived west of the island of Corfù (at an altitude of less than 10,000 feet, descending.

They then reappeared after about 5/6 hours in flight towards Sigonella.

We cannot know the type of mission nor the area precisely, but these are extremely unusual missions that could be linked to the presence of Russian units in the area (for about three months, a Russian nuclear submarine has been operating in the Mediterranean).
