Eyes on Transnistria

Even today, surveillance activity on NATO’s eastern flank is intense.

There seems to be a particular focus on what is happening in the Moldovan region of Transinistria, after yesterday’s Russian decision to no longer recognise Moldova’s independence. Transinistria is home to about a thousand of Moscow’s soldiers.

Therefore, two aircraft are operating in the area, a US Army Bombardier CL.60 ARTEMIS (reg. N488CR – callsign BRIO68) and an Italian Air Force Gulfstream E.550 CAEW (reg. MM62293 – callsign PERSEO71), the former took off from Bucharest, the latter from the Mihail Kogălniceanu airbase
