U-2 Ukrainian mission?

Share

Rare sighting today in Cyprus. A USAF Lockheed U-2S (reg. 80-1086) took off from RAF Akrotiri base at 06:18 CEST and landed back at the British base after more than 9 hours of mission time at 15:53.

The entire flight pattern of the mission is not available, we can see only takeoff and arrival in Cyprus.

Therefore we cannot state precisely where the aircraft carried out its mission, given the direction of the flight (last contact was to the northeast of the island) it seems that the aircraft headed north, probably to operate a mission related to the situation in Ukraine (over the Black Sea?).

  • I saw a U2 around March, 2022, near that same Island. There is a U2 unit permanently stationed on that island.
