NATO surveillance missions continue in the Black Sea after Ukrainian attack on Sevastopol

Following yesterday’s Ukrainian attack on Sevastopol, which destroyed the Russian Black Sea Fleet headquarters, NATO surveillance missions continue in the Black Sea.

This morning, we are tracking two assets:

  • An USN Lockheed EP-3E (reg. 159887), which took off from Souda Bay AB, is orbiting eastern Romania, near the Danube Delta, where it is conducting a SIGINT mission. The EP-3E is an electronic intelligence (SIGINT) aircraft that is equipped with a variety of sensors to collect data on Russian communications and radar emissions.
  • A French Navy Breguet Atlantique ATL.2 (reg. 20) is flying over the Black Sea, conducting a surveillance mission. The ATL.2 is a maritime patrol aircraft that is equipped with a variety of sensors to collect data on Russian naval activity.
