BLACKWOLF to the Gulf

Yesterday, we observed how U.S. forces in the Gulf region are strengthening, with at least six B-52H aircraft arriving between Saturday and today. However, around 11 p.m. last night, a Bombardier E-11A (registration 22-9047, callsign BLACKWOLF21) landed at NAS Sigonella, arriving directly from the United States (having taken off from Robins Air Force Base in Georgia).

This particular aircraft is the seventh E-11A delivered to the USAF, and it’s the first time it has been deployed outside the U.S. The E-11A is used to provide extended command and control (C2) capabilities to airborne assets and ground troops deployed on the battlefield. Essentially, the aircraft acts as a high-altitude communications relay and gateway system to help distribute voice communications across the battlespace.

The aircraft is still at Sigonella, but it is highly likely that it will continue its journey toward the Gulf region.

Monitoring military aircraft and ships movements over Italy and Mediterranean Sea

  • Buongiorno!
