After a stop in Tunisia, the USS Mount Whitney (LCC-20), flagship of the U.S. Sixth Fleet, arrived yesterday in Tripoli, Libya.

On board the ship are Vice Admiral J.T. Anderson, Commander of the U.S. 6th Fleet, Ambassador Richard Norland, U.S. Special Envoy to Libya, and Jeremy Berndt, Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Libya. The visit, which includes stops in both Tripoli and Benghazi, aims to discuss U.S.-Libya security cooperation, regional security, and American support for the unity of the North African country.

Coinciding with the arrival of the Mount Whitney, a U.S. Navy MQ-9 “Blackcat” drone was observed this morning conducting a patrol mission off the coast of Benghazi, in eastern Libya. The mission is likely connected to the visit of the U.S. delegation.
