The German Navy’s FGS Brandenburg (F215), a Brandenburg-class frigate, is currently conducting operations off the coast of Lebanon as part of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) maritime task force.
The vessel’s movements, clearly visible in the tracking data, show a pattern consistent with routine patrolling and surveillance within the designated operational area of UNIFIL’s maritime component. The frigate has been active west of the Lebanese coastline, particularly between the coastal cities of Beirut and Tyre.
UNIFIL’s Maritime Task Force (MTF) is the first and only naval force ever deployed in support of a United Nations peacekeeping mission. Since 2006, it has played a key role in preventing the unauthorized entry of arms or related materials by sea into Lebanon and in assisting the Lebanese Navy in building its operational capabilities.
FGS Brandenburg’s presence reaffirms Germany’s longstanding commitment to international peacekeeping efforts and regional stability. Equipped with advanced sensors and a helicopter deck, the frigate is well-suited for maritime security and reconnaissance missions in support of UNIFIL’s mandate.
