MEDUSA 2021 exercise

A multi-nation joint naval and air exercise is in progress off Crete and will be completed on Monday. Dubbed “Medusa ,” the military drill, which basically includes forces from Egypt and Greece as well Cyprus and UAE , as invited Countries.

The Egyptian and UAE fighter jets participating in the exercise have been relocated to Souda Bay AB and the 115th Combat Wing.

Egypt is participating with Lockheed Martin F-16, Dassault Mirage-2000, Rafale and MiG-29 fighters jets, UAE with its F-16 block 60.

Hellenic Air Force is participating with different assets, in the first place the F-16s of 115th Combat Wings.

Not only aircraft

There are also different Navy units involved in the exercise.

Hellenic Navy participates with the frigate “Salamis” (F-455), the fast attack craft “Blessas” (P21) and a Helicopter of the Naval Air Command; Egypt with LHD “Gamal Abdel Nasser” (L1010), frigate “Bernees” (FFG-1003), corvette “Port Said” (976) , an Ambassador Mk fast missile craft and “Lürssen” (CPV-60) patrol boat.
