The Italian Navy’s aircraft carriers, the Cavour (C550) and the Garibaldi (C551) have left the Taranto base in recent days.

They are both probably heading to the Tyrrhenian Sea to take part in the “Mare Aperto 2022” exercise, the Italian Navy’s most important exercise, which takes place from 3 to 27 May and in which the aircraft carrier USS Truman and its CSG will also take part.

A comparison of satellite images shows that the two ships are not the only units of the Italian Navy to have left Taranto (at least one destroyer and one frigate are no longer present at the naval base).
