Turkish central Mediterranean sea operation

Unusual situation this morning over the central Mediterranean.

A Turkish Air Force Boeing E-7T (reg. 13-001 – f/n TURAF42) is orbiting between Italy, Libya and Greece while a Turkish Navy ATR P-72 MPA (reg. TCB-752 – f/n TURNA05) is arriving in the area.

The AWACS aircraft took off from Konya AB while the Turkish Navy aircraft took off from Antalya. The navy aircraft during its flight entered the Greek FIR but never entered the Athens airspace.

The nature of the Turkish operation is not known.
