A Dutch helicopter training exercise called “High Blaze 23” is being held at Aviano Air Base (Pordenone, Italy) from September 1 to 8, 2023.
The exercise involves personnel and helicopters from the Dutch Defence Helicopter Command. This year, the exercise will also include Boeing AH-64 “Apache” helicopters, in addition to the Boeing CH-47s, AS532s, and an NH-90 that have been tracked this morning.
The purpose of the exercise is to allow crews to train in a different geographical context than their home country. Specifically, the Dutch helicopters will fly in the skies of the Venetian Prealps, where they will be able to practice mountain flying maneuvers, close air support to ground forces, and the transport of materials and personnel.
The exercises will be conducted in designated and authorized airspace, during the hours scheduled for training, and in a way that minimizes noise impact.
