An Italian Customs ATR P-72B (reg. MM62331) conducted a surveillance mission near the Albanian and Montenegrin coasts. The purpose of the mission was to monitor the Adriatic Sea for illegal trafficking, especially of drugs and cigarettes. The aircraft used a variety of surveillance technology, including radar, cameras, and satellites, to track the movement of vessels and aircraft.

A mission with different objectives was carried out by an Italian Air Force ATR P-72A (reg. MM62279) that took off from Sigonella and conducted a mission over the Ionian Sea, probably with the aim of identifying possible boats carrying migrants to Italy.
