Today, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni announced that the Italian Navy patrol vessel ITS Paolo Thaon di Revel (P 430) is ready to depart for the Eastern Mediterranean.

However, the Italian deployment in the Eastern Mediterranean is already more substantial.

A San Giorgio-class ship is reportedly by Italian media en route to the area. This ship can be used to provide humanitarian assistance to civilians, but could also serve as an advanced base for the repatriation of the 1,500 Italian troops currently in Lebanon as part of the UN mission.

The frigate ITS Virginio Fasan (F 591) and the submarine ITS Pietro Venuti (S 528) are already in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Another frigate, the ITS Carlo Bergamini (F 590) is also present in the area, operating as part of NATO SMNG2.
