Italian exercise over the Strait of Sicily?

This morning we’ve tracked an unusual track south of Sicily: it was an aircraft with callsign “DARDO23” which Flightradar24 identified as N787BK is a default registration used by many aircafts and also for test flights.

The plane appears to have departed and landed from Trapani Birgi AB.

The DARDO callsign is used by the Eurofighters of the 9th fighter group of the 4th Wings based in Grosseto AB and “DARDO23” could be the callsign of the EFA reg. MM55095 (codes 04-23).

In addition, in the same area we traced a Gulfstream E.550 CAEW (MM62293) which left this morning from Pratica di Mare AB. In this case the PERSE callsign would seem to imply a training and not an operational mission.

We do not know if the two things are connected but it could be that both aircraft participated in an exercise off the coast of Sicily.
